Tá líon na dtraonach ag meadú le blianta anuas agus faoi láthair tá 10% de líon na dtraonach i nDún na Gall ann agus sin thart ar 6% den líon náisiúnta. An chúis is dóchúla leis seo ná go bhfuil roinnt mhaith de na páirceanna tréigthe agus nach bhfuil á ngearradh i gcomhair tuí a thuilleadh, ag laghdú an líon éin a mharaítear de bharr lomadh. Is mian le Birdwatch Ireland an bainistiú seo a dheánamh ach tá gá le staidéar féidearthachta ar dtús le n-aimsiú cé mhéid de na páirceanna tréigthe seo atá i gceantar na dtraonach agus cé mhéid úinéirí talúin a bheadh sásta go mbeadh an cineál seo oibre curtha i gcrích.

Corncrake areas have been clearly defined in a previous study but they now need careful management.   Bird Watch Ireland would like to carry out the management work but a feasibility study is required to first determine how much abandoned land is present in the corncrake area and how many landowners may be willing to have this work carried out.
